This film definitely goes in the category of bad B-Movies, but it is easy on the eyes. In typical DeCoteau fashion we get lots of hot shirtless guys but this time the undies are replaced with speedos.
Story: During a visit to the lake, leeches attach themselves to a couple guys on the college swim team and the leaches make their way onto the college campus. After mutation the leeches go killer and the swim team falls prey to their deadly suction.
Gay Factors: It's one of DeCoteau's early homoerotic films, filled with hot guys and gay undertones. Several male/male relationships come into question.
Jason's girlfriend comments that Stevo is Jason's only concern about the team; later she fights with Stevo and asks "if he has dibs on him."
The more questionable relationship is Fish and Spencer. In the whole movie, the only time Fish appears not at Spencer's side is when he gets killed in the shower.
Use of the leeches in the film is very phallic and sometimes erotic. It almost appears as felatio when one of the leeches crawls into a boy's mouth. As leeches crawl up a sleeping boy, the camera zooms at the leech approaching his butt as if its going to probe him. During his shower, the leech crawls between Fish's legs as he sits in the corner. When Jason is tied to the bed and blindfolded, he becomes aroused and excited over the leech crawling up his leg and over his crotch, thinking it's his girlfriend.
