Apartment Zero

Cast:  Hart Bochner, Colin Firth

Director:  Martin Donovan

1988

Apartment Zero is a dramatic, suspense thriller from Argentina, not standard horror.  Low budget and a bit draggy but worth mentioning.

Story:  Adrian advertises for a new roommate, meeting Jack, and the two fall into brief domestic harmony, but both have their own emotional baggage.  Along the way, Adrian falls for Jack but then begins to suspect that Jack is actually the government agent turned serial killer that's been terrorizing the neighborhood.

Gay Factor:  Gay overtones; Adrian and Jack somewhat play as a domestic couple but Adrian is more repressed and in disgust of Jack's promiscuity.  Adrian claims to like women but comes off as a very emotionally repressed homosexual and is clearly smitten with Jack.  Jack admits to his bisexuality and implies relationships with other men in the apartment building, including picking up a gay man at the airport.

If you enjoy Hart Bochner, catch him in Urban Legends:  Final Cut, a traditional style slasher flick that also has a gay male and two lesbian characters.
