Trick 'R Treat

Cast:  Dylan Baker, Rochelle Aytes, Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, Lauren Lee Smith

Director:  Michael Dougherty

2007

Quite possibly the best Halloween film outside the classic Michael Myers franchise.  This takes on a bit of everything from a serial killer, a "vampire," a pack of werewolves and ghost zombies from a Halloween massacre 30 years earlier!  The story is told as an anthology of separate stories, all in the same town on Halloween night that tie together in the end.  A brilliant film and a must see for any Halloween lovers.  The film's writer, Michael Dougherty, announced he is planning a sequel.

Story:  Four interwoven tales on Halloween night:  A school principal who has a secret life as a serial killer; a self-concious 22 year old virgin girl, out to celebrate the holiday with her friends; a group of kids out to pull a prank on their classmate, but find themselves getting it in the end; and a wife who hates Halloween but must contend with her husband's love of the holiday.  In the background of all the stories is a mysterious scarecrow kid, "Sam."

Gay Factor:  Unfortunately no gay characters, but the film's producer, Bryan Singer, is gay and the film's co-star, Anna Paquin is bisexual.

Night Of The Demons (Remake)

Cast:  Monica Keena, Shannon Elizabeth, Edward Furlong, Diora Baird, Michael Copon, Bobbi Sue Luther, John F. Beach

Director:  Adam Gierasch

2010

A remake of the cult classic and I actually prefer this over the original - better acting, better effects, a few known stars.

Story:  For Halloween, Angela hosts a rave style party at the abandonned Broussard Mansion, where 7 people mysteriously vanished back in the 1920's, but the party gets busted up by the police.  The party clears out but a few people get left behind and become trapped in the house.  After discovering a secret room filled with dead bodies, one by one the souls of the dead start to possess the kids, hoping to return to Earth to evoke the end of the world.

Gay Factors:  Gayer than the original, but still not huge on a gay scale.  2 bisexual female characters; male/male kissing; female/female kissing.  During a game of Spin The Bottle, two girls have to make out, then two guys have to kiss but the guy kiss is literally split second, unlike the previous girl's kissing.  Later, two girls end up alone and appear to have a sexual history together; they start dancing together and makeout - Catch Shannon Elizabeth liplocking with another girl.

Night Of The Demons (1988)

Cast:  Amelia Kinkade (credited as Mimi Kinkade), Cathy Podewell, Alvin Alexis,  Allison Barron, Lance Fenton, Billy Gallo, Hal Havins, Linnea Quigley, Phillip Tanzini, Jill Terashita, Donnie Jeffcoat, Harold Ayer, Marie Denn

Director:  Kevin Tenney

1988

A mildly successful cult classic from the 80's.  The acting is pretty bad and the film quality is pretty dark.  Supposedly, at the time, the gore and violence was considered too extreme and it couldn't find a distributor till a European company picked it up.  I personally prefer the remake.

Story:  A group of high school students go to a secluded, abandonned mortuary for their Halloween party.  During a seance, they awaken the dead spirits who seeks out their deadly revenge.

Gay Factor:  Extremely minor - One girl/girl kiss.

Night Of The Demons 2

Cast: Amelia Kinkade, Cristi Harris, Darin Heames, Robert Jayne, Merle Kennedy, Rod McCary, Johnny Moran, Rick Peters, Jennifer Rhodes, Christine Taylor, Zoe Trilling, Ladd York, Mark Neely

Director:  Brian Trenchard-Smith

1994

A hokey, low budget monster flick, but it is much better than the original (mostly because of better film quality) and better acting.  Unfortunately, nothing gory starts happening till nearly halfway through the movie.  Also, a lot of religious imagery which some gays might not enjoy; they use holy water and crucifixes throughout the movie to fight the demons.

Story:  Halloween at a private Catholic school but the party gets interrupted with the return of the demonic Angela, whose sister now attends that school.

Gay Factors:  No gay characters; very minor gayness.  There's three girl/girl kisses - the demon can posess someone else through kissing.  Little bit of eye candy for anyone, but primarily for a straight audience or lesbians.  There's a few shots of guy's chests and guy's in underwear.  There's a lot of female nudity, including a bit of full frontal.
